Lily Mixe is a French artist, born in the suburbs of Paris in 1983. Lily’s artwork moves from paper and canvas, found objects and onto the surface of walls in the street. At the centre of the work is Nature and in particular the Ocean. Usually taking the form of detailed studies and renditions of sea creatures and water dwelling beasts. The subjects are otherworldly, aliens from our own planet. Specimens that offer reminders of how beautiful and complex life on Earth can be, how much of it is unknown, undiscovered and more often than not, considered just a small part in the human food chain. Inspired by numerous diving expeditions, and hundreds of note books and studies of animals and plants, the work of Lily Mixe is both familiar and unusual. Lily says, “the work celebrates life under the surface, the incredible unseen, silent beings we take for granted.”
