Eva Stenram treats photographic archives as both a source of inspiration and a library of raw materials from which to create new work. For the series Garden States, she has combined body parts culled from vintage erotica magazines with a collection of images from gardening books bought in second hand stores. Bridging Surrealism and the digital era, the work is both unsettling and hopeful.
Eva Stenram has recently exhibited in The Lives and Loves of Images Die Biennale für Aktuelle Fotografie, Screen-Age II: Landscape at The Riga Photography Biennale, the internationally touring exhibition A Handful of Dust, and Home Sweet Home at the Rencontres de la Photographie in Arles. Her work features in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, Tate Gallery and Moderna Museet in Stockholm.
